This building, located at the corner of Fitzwilliam and Richards Streets, was constructed in 1931. At various times it housed Safeway, the public health department and the police station. In 1961 Mladen Zorkin purchased the building. It is now known as the “Zorkin Block” and the old jail cells are still intact. For many years it was the site of Zorkin Insurance Brokers. Today it houses the Zorkin administration, offices, Betsy’s Boutique and the Nanaimo Men’s Resource Centre. |
