| Fitzwilliam Gate was built in 1994/95 as a landmark feature of Nanaimo's Old City
Quarter. The development fronts on Fitzwilliam Street, part of the Third Street Connector
to the Nanaimo Parkway bypass. Based on the architectural design of the Burlington Arcade at the end of Saville Row in London, England, Fitzwilliam Gate is a two-storied glass-covered walkway atrium. The main street level houses six retail locations and the second floor is designed for office space with separate street entrances. Fitzwilliam Gate was awarded the City of Nanaimo's 1996 Old City Gateway design award. The building is approximately 5000 square feet on each floor. |
