KGZ Development Corp. is active in commercial real estate development, primarily focused on retail and office projects. The development division designs and builds out the property to its best use then turns over the building to the property management division to handle, in-house, leasing and day to day management of the building systems and tenant activities.

The Kristo Zorkin Group was instrumental in creating and redeveloping the area within Nanaimo known as the Old City Quarter. It is an authentic heritage area with many buildings between 80 and 100 years old. It's redevelopment starting back in 1983 by Kristo Zorkin has brought new life to the area and making it one of Nanaimo's premier, unique shopping, dining and services area. 

The insurance division was one of Nanaimo's oldest agencies celebrating its 50th year in 1999. Kristo Zorkin purchased the agency from his father Mladen Zorkin in 1983 and recently sold the company in order to be able to devote more time to creating more rental and leasing opportunities for Nanaimo.

I was born and raised in Nanaimo, leaving at age 14 to pursue my education. I attended Shawnigan Lake Boys School for Grades 9 to 12 and the University of Victoria from 1971 to 1977, gaining a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Physiology. From 1978 to1980 I studied French language at the Université de Sorbonne in Paris.  I commenced my business career in September 1980 and apprenticed under my father Mladen Zorkin until 1983. From 1983 onwards I have owned and operated my own companies. I held licenses as a real estate agent and insurance agent. In addition, I was a practising notary public for ten years. My interests, and those of the companies I own, have always been focused on uncompromising originality and diversified product lines to meet customer demands. Karl Abbors - General Manager

I was born and raised in Burnaby but lured by my love of water and anything that floats, I finally moved from the mainland to become an Islander. Gabriola Island has been home since 1989. I started work in 1990 for Kristo Zorkin as the Comptroller of his group of companies, and as the years have progressed so have my duties and responsibilities. The downtown office is now my "home away from home," and my duties have expanded to include General Manager of The Kristo Zorkin Group of companies. I have had the pleasure of working with the various Zorkin companies since 1988. The majority of my duties include accounting assistant and commercial and residential property rentals. My background includes real estate management, development and sales. I was promoted within the company in 2006 to Property & Leasing Manager.
